Mother’s Cameo refers to the anguish seen in public media outlets of the mourning Mother while television cameras capture her traumatic response. The Black Mother never gets to have a moment of compassion and respect to gather her thoughts and mourn in private. This is an acrylic painting on canvas and was completed in 2019. There is also a black feather sewn onto the canvas. This painting is available for purchase.

Akua’ba Doll are wooden ritual fertility dolls from Ghana and given to Young Women to carry on their backs to assure beautiful children or to conceive a child. Pomegranate is symbol of rebirth fertility,beauty and eternal beauty, in Greek and Persian mythology. Here I painted both to represent our lives as Women and our beautiful children in acrylic paint.

This acrylic painting is part of the series “Why You Wanna Fly Black Bird?” It refers to the Black Woman who was not born with a silver spoon and one who will endure much pain in her life’s journey but will move through it with grace and often solemn gratitude. ‘Standing in the need of prayer’ is mixed media paper quilt painting. Palms in supination asking for peace in prayer , in the midst of chaos. The washes represent life and the fluidity of constant change of life. The lotus flower represents the body that is beautiful but sits on top of mud. The buds represents new life and the hope for great possibilities to come.

She Rocks is an acrylic painting representing Black Women who are many and who move with magic and constant change in our communities. This is canvas and prints are available. Originally painted live during a stage performance with Black Women Rock, a concert of rock produced by Jessica care Moore in Detroit, San Francisco and Philadelphia.
